Department of Pharmaceutics is among the five departments located within Shankersinh Vaghela Bapu Institute of Pharmacy at the Bapu Gujarat Knowledge Village. This multidisciplinary science involves the formulation development, production and characterization of various dosage forms as well as studying the drug’s disposition and action within the body. It can be very well said that the department of pharmaceutics deals with the process of turning a New Chemical Entity (NCE) into a medication to be used safely and effectively by patients. It is also called the Science of Dosage Form Design. 

The department is involved in theoretical teaching and practical training in all areas of pharmaceutics with emphasis on the major thrust areas as specified in the curriculum of the Gujarat Technological University. The department is involved in imparting through knowledge of subjects that a student needs to acquire: Pharmaceutical Unit Operations, Physical Pharmacy, Dispensing Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, Forensic Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Marketing and Pharmaceutical Industrial Management, Microbiology & Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Technology & Industrial pharmacy, Dosage Form Design, Bio-pharmaceutics & Pharmacokinetics as well as Novel drug delivery system at the undergraduate and post graduate level thus covering both basic and advanced aspects of pharmaceutical sciences which is the need of the pharma industry. 

The department also caters to the need of the post graduate students for understanding the concepts of newer subjects like Biopharmaceutics where the basic concepts of ADME and fundamentals of bioavailability and bioequivalence are taught to the students. The department also has Aseptic Laboratory with unique instruments like Laminar air flow unit, BOD incubator, Autoclave, Hot Air Oven, Cooling centrifuge etc. to name a few. 

The department of pharmaceutical has also conducted several successful seminars, conferences, expert talks and industrial visits.
